JAKOB OGAWA YOU MIGHT BE SLEEPING

Following highly-praised singles ‘All Your Love’ and ‘Let It Pass’, Norwegian newcomer Jakob Ogawa is back with another gently-paced, hazy pop song, ‘You Might Be Sleeping’. The lo-fi strings are met with an understated beat, which every now and then saunters up to the cymbals, but other than that, the track is very reserved and steady, much like the voices of Ogawa and 18-year-old Soundcloud wunderkind Clairo. What we have is a bittersweet love song about infatuation with a lover, and yet a level of uncertainty about reciprocated feelings may be detected in the central line, “And in the morning, I’ll be here; you might be sleeping without a care.” Throughout the song, the soft vocals of the Oslo artist and Boston guest interplay beautifully - really, a match made in Internet heaven. - HT
